So I can now say I've encountered my first Naked Bike Ride! My TEFL friend Brittany and I were meeting up later in the day to tour the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium (Madrid's Estadio Real) but I had plenty of free time earlier in the day. I was strolling (and shopping, lots of shopping) around Gran Vía here in Madrid yesterday, casually roaming the streets, when I hear this HUGE commotion. Now what could that be, I thought to myself. I know there have been some protests going on, mostly to do with the metro workers. But this was an ENTIRELY different kind of commotion.

Naked bike riders! I have no idea what the occasion was, or if they were raising funds for something, but they sure seemed to be having a good time!

They were guys and girls, some completely naked, others wearing underwear or just simply masks. Everyone was cheering, and people on the sidewalks were stopping to take pictures and cheer along with them.

Quite shocking, to say the least. I certainly don't think you'd get away with this kind of thing in the US, but what can I say? When in Madrid...
